The database is divided into a number of
sections, each one dealing with a major historical period or subject. The
Overview of the Jewish Life in Austria serves as a multimedia-based foreword
offering a succinct introduction to the tremendous heritage of Jewish
communities in Austria. Jewish life in the Middle Ages, Modern and Contemporary
eras is dealt with in separate chapters, each listing tens of communities that
have existed in the Austrian lands during those periods. Each historical section
deals with a number of subjects; among them special emphasis has been put among
others on demography, communal organizations, religious and cultural life,
occupations, daily life, gender studies, legal status and relationships with the
Austrian society, anti-Jewish persecutions and the Holocaust, and mutual
influences between Jews and Austrians.

The database includes two Timelines;
one is dedicated to a chronological presentation of the major events in the life
of the Jewish communities in Austria since the first mention of Jewish presence
in the early Middle Ages until the beginning of the 21st century.
1923 – A Year in Vienna is the subject of the second timeline that focuses
on daily life events of the Jewish population in Vienna as reported in the press
of the period. In addition, the database boasts hundreds of biographies of
Jewish personalities of Austrian origin or who activated in Austria. A separate
section of the database is dedicated to the history and heritage of the Jews of
Vienna from the Middle Ages until the beginning of the 21st century.
The story of the Jewish presence in Austria is illustrated by a rich visual
documentation, including video clips, as well as by musical recordings and
interactive maps.
The Documentation of Jewish Communities in
Austria is available in English and Hebrew and may be viewed in the Permanent
Exhibit of the Museum.
The Documentation of Jewish Communities
in Austria was made possible by a generous grant from the National Fund of
