Over 14,000 students from Argentina,
Brazil, Colombia, Israel, Italy, Mexico, South Africa, Spain, USA, and Venezuela
participated in the eighth annual My Family's Story International Competition.. 280 projects reached the
final stage of the competition and of these 26 were chosen for the final
judging. Every student whose work made it to the final stage of the competition
was presented with a personal Certificate of Excellence from Beth Hatefutsoth.

The Panel of Judges consisted of
representatives of the Israeli Ministry of Education, the Constantiner Family
School of Education of Tel Aviv University, the Jewish Family Research
Association in Israel, the Douglas E. Goldman Jewish Genealogy Center at Beth
Hatefutsoth, the Bernhard H. and Miriam Oster Visual Documentation Center of
Beth Hatefutsoth, the Education Center of Beth Hatefutsoth, and other public
representatives.

The prize-giving ceremony took place on
June 14th at Beth Hatefutsoth. The ceremony was attended by Mrs. and Mr.
Mr. Sami Shamoon, Miss Alexandra Shamoon, Prof. Malka Margalit, Head of the Constantiner
Family School of Education of Tel Aviv University, Mr. Shlomo Lahat, Chairman of
Beth Hatefutsoth's Board of Directors, Mr. Mr. Ranny Finzi, Director-General of
Beth Hatefutsoth, Mr. Zvi Halbrecht, representatives from the Israeli Education
Ministry, educators, students, members of the families, and guests. Honorary
guest of the evening was Mr. Yehoram Gaon, Israel Prize Laureate of 2004.

All family trees submitted by the
students have been added to the database of the Douglas E. Goldman Jewish
Genealogy Center at Beth Hatefutsoth and will be preserved for the benefit of future
generations.
