Migration from ILANOT to DoroTree
Exporting a family tree created with the help of ILANOT
is easy. To export (migrate) your information from ILANOT to DoroTree Jewish
genealogy software please follow the instructions below.
Export of information from ILANOT to DoroTree (version
2.10.02) is performed by using the GEDCOM feature.
How to export your family tree from
ILANOT to DoroTree:
- Create a full GEDCOM export file from your ILANOT program
(GEDCOM 5.5). Please click
here for
instructions on how to create a GEDCOM file with the help of ILANOT.
- Install DoroTree software as prescribed in your User’s
Guide.
- Import the GEDCOM file from the
File|GEDCOM
submenu of DoroTree:
- To import from the English version of ILANOT – use
“Import
New Tree…”
- To import from the Hebrew version of ILANOT – use
“Special
Import…”
- Press the
Save File icon (first to the left) and you can
start working with your family tree in DoroTree.
Further information and instructions:
- DoroTree tries to place your information in the appropriate fields.
- Special fields have been allocated under the
Info tab,
when possible. Press the Label Titles button and name the
titles of these fields as you wish.
- Open the
File | GEDCOM | Import Report… to see, if
there is any data that was not transferred into DoroTree. You can then
enter this information manually. Save or print the Import Report, if
you think you need it. Next time you open DoroTree the report will otherwise
be gone.
- DoroTree’s Import feature tries to determine whether a certain field
is in English or in Hebrew, and will insert it accordingly. If you entered
both English and Hebrew in the same field, the program cannot separate
the languages, and you will see English fields with the Hebrew text
as “gibberish”. You can re-arrange these fields easily by “Copy and
Paste” the “gibberish” to the Hebrew side of the screen, where it will
become normal Hebrew again.
Important:
- Do not forget to press the
Save File icon
occasionally, when updating information in your DoroTree family
database.
- Make sure that you always have an updated backup of your family
tree file, preferably on an additional PC or server (when available)
and on a CD.
