Born in Yemen in
1902, he immigrated to Palestine in 1909, where he became
one of the leaders of the Yemenite community in Israel. In 1922, he
founded Degel Hazvi, a charitable association for Yemenite Jews in
Jerusalem. A graduate of the Mizrahi seminary in Jerusalem in 1925,
R. Hubashi served for many years as principal of the Tora Or
Yemenite school in Jerusalem. As representative of the Yemenite
Association in the Land of Israel and member of the Provisional
Council of State, R. Hubashi was one of the 37 signatories of The
Declaration of the Establishment of the State of Israel on Iyyar
4th, 5708 - May 14th, 1948. In 1970, he was appointed Chief Rabbi of
the Yemenite congregation in New York.
