Born in Trondheim, Norway, he worked in Oslo
and London, England. In 1940 he moved to the US and became director
of scientific research at Sing Sing prison in New York (1948-52).
In 1966 he was appointed medical and psychiatric director of
the Foundation for the Prevention of Addictive Diseases. Abrahamsen
taught in various New York universities and wrote studies on
criminology and he founded the Forum for the Study and Prevention
of Crime at Columbia University in New York.
