Born in Russia, she was taken to Palestine by her Zionist parents in 1908, where she dedicated herself to the
agricultural work and displayed a genuine love for the nature of the land. Along
with her sister Hannah Chizik, she organized a farm school for girls. In 1920,
Sarah decided to join a group of settlers who under the leadership of Joseph
Trumpeldor (1880-1920) volunteered to defend the settlement of Tel Hai, one of
the only two women in the group. Sarah Czizik was killed in the battle of Tel
Hai, in March 1920 (Yod Aleph be'Adar), along with another seven pioneers,
including Joseph Trumpeldor, when the settlement was attacked by Arabs.
