Born in Haguenau, Alsace,
he became professor of history at the University of Dijon,
France, in 1905 and from 1931 professor of Central European
history at the Sorbonne in Paris. His special interest was
Slavonic cultural history. He was general secretary of the
Institute for Slavonic Studies at the University of Paris
and director of the Center for the Study of Foreign Policy.
His main writings dealt with the Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Eisenmann also edited historical journals.
