Born in Fredericia,
Denmark, he started his business career as a private banker
in Christiania (now Oslo, in Norway) in 1865. From 1870 he
managed the Norwegian Credit Bank. Two years later he was
called to Copenhagen to direct the new Landmansbanken which
under his management became the largest bank in Scandinavia.
Glueckstadt was responsible for many commercial initiatives,
including the Copenhagen Free Port. For many years he was
chairman of the board of delegates of the Jewish community
in Copenhagen.
