Born in Bahia Blanca,
Argentina, he studied in Buenos Aires and Cambridge, England. From
1961-63 he was at the National Institute of Microbiology in Buenos
Aires and then moved to Cambridge University to head its protein and
nucleic chemistry division. In 1984 Milstein was awarded a Nobel
Prize in Medicine for his work into the body's immunological system
and his role in developing a revolutionary method for producing
antibodies.
