He was born in Luck,
Poland (now in the Ukraine) and. joined Betar, the Revisionist youth
movement, at an early age. He immigrated to Palestine illegally in
1937 and worked with a Betar labor group in Rosh Pinnah. In April
1938 Ben-Yosef and two of his comrades, outraged by Arab terror
attacks, made a retaliatory attack on an Arab bus on the Rosh
Pinnah-Safed road. The attack failed and the three were arrested and
tried before a British military court. Though none was hurt,
Ben-Shlomo and one of his comrades were sentenced to death. His
comrade's sentence was commuted to life imprisonment but Ben-Yosef
was executed despite worldwide protests and appeals.
