Born in
Aleppo, Syria, he was a learned authority on the Talmud and halakha.
When his father died, he succeeded him as rabbi of Aleppo and head
of the beit din, serving for some forty years. He ruled the
community firmly and combated the growing influence of the affluent.
Antibi wrote works on many subjects - rabbinical, ethics, mysticism
and some of his poems entered the Aleppo liturgy. His works are an
important source for the history of Syrian Jewry. He was revered as
a wonder-workers and was the subject of many legends.
