Zev Radovan, The Hechal (detail), the Bet El Synagogue, Marrakesh, Morocco 1994

The synagogue, located in the Gueliz quarter in the new city, was built in the first half of the 20th century. The hechal, brought from the Attie synagogue in the mellah (the old Jewish quarter), is probably from the late 18th or early 19th century. It is made of carved wood with decorations in Muslim style.
