Zion Ozeri, Haidan al-Sham, Yemen 1992

The Haidan al-Sham region is called after the township of Haidan, near Sa'da, in the mountainous north of Yemen. In the past there was a large Jewish settlement of several hundred families, who lived in al-Hajar and al-Sha'f - the Jewish neighborhoods of Haidan al-Sham. By 1992, after years of clandestine activity to bring the remaining Yemenite Jews to Israel, many had left, and today only a few hundred Jews remain in Yemen.
