Scribe and Scroll
For Grades 1-2
This program explores the story of the son of a Jewish scribe from Amsterdam who helps his father write a Torah scroll. This program is suitable for the early stages of learning Bible and receiving a Bible or Torah school in school, and presents the importance of the Torah for the continuity of the Jewish people.
The Travels of Benjamin of Tudela
For Grades 4-6
This program explores the travels of Benjamin Bar Jonah, a Jewish merchant from the city of Tudela, Spain, from the twelfth century. His business brought him to travel through lands and seas, and he wrote of the various Jewish communities he encountered, and of their lifestyles and relationships with their neighbors. The children, using passports and souvenirs, travel along with Benjamin of Tudela, discovering faraway lands, personalities, and landscapes from the past.
Donna Gracia Mendes Nassi
For Grade 6
This program examines the role of women in Jewish life. Students encounter Donna Gracia, the daughter of crypto-Jews from Portugal (1510-1569) who had a tremendous influence on the Jewish community during her life, as a leader, businesswoman and philanthropist. The program includes workshops, drama, stories, and arts and crafts.
