The Israel Friends of Beit Hatfutsot joined with fashion department at Shenkar College of Engineering and Design for a spectacular project to create beautifully hand embroidered wedding gowns inspired by Beit Hatfutsot, The Museum of the Jewish People.

These unique designs will be revealed to the public for the first time on the runway of Gindi Fashion Week Tel Aviv, which is produced by Motty Reif. This stunning fashion show will take place on Tuesday, December 18, the second day of Fashion Week.

“Here Comes the Bride” was initiated by Director of the Israel Friends of Beit Hatfutsot, Irit Admoni Perlman, and Chairman, Gideon Hamburger, together with Leah Peretz, Head of the Fashion Design Department at Shenkar College of Engineering and Design.

The project, which was part of the annual course on designing wedding gowns, was undertaken by 14 Shenkar third year fashion students, under the guidance of lecturer Ronen Levin, with Dalia Cohen and Ziva Sidler. As their final assignment the students designed bridal gowns inspired by the synagogue models on display at Beit Hatfutsot. The synagogue reproductions from around the world, and throughout history, portray rich cultures and traditions, offering the students an opportunity to trace their roots, as well as the customs, colors, music and liturgy, decorations and embroidery which were part of their family tradition. Using these elements, the students created, beautifully crafted bridal gowns, embellished with exquisite hand embroidery; each incorporating personal interpretations and reflecting the sentiments and relationship of each student-designer to their own individual culture, heritage and roots.

"This extraordinary cooperation between Beit Hatfutsot and Shenkar, gave us a unique opportunity to tell the exceptional and ongoing story of the Jewish People and its multifaceted culture, in an original and unusual way," commented Irit Admoni Perlman, Director of the Israel Friends of Beit Hatfutsot.

"The Fashion Design department at Shenkar is proud to be part of Fashion Week with such an exciting project,” said Leah Peretz, Head of the Fashion Design Department at Shenkar College of Engineering and Design. ““Here Comes the Bride” introduced the students to their collective and individual heritage which inspired them to create fantastic designs in material and thread," continued Ms. Peretz.

Following the Fashion show, the gowns will return to Beit Hatfutsot, to be displayed in a special exhibition throughout 2013.
