Flavors and Sounds - Annual Gala Dinner

Gideon Hamburger (Chair) and Irit Admoni Perlman (Director) hosted on December 22, 2013 the annual Gala dinner of the Friends of Beit Hatfutsot, an evening dedicated to celebrating flavours and sounds.

Circa 300 guests attended the Gala which took place at Hilton Tel Aviv. The evening marked the end of a year filled with many events and exhibitions initiated by the Friends of Beit Hatfutsot. The dinner was a salute to the music and food of the Jewish home. Flavors and Sounds are childhood memories, longings for our roots, celebration of holidays, joys, traditions and family customs all of which brings us together to be a part of the story.

Members of the “Nashim Mevashlot” Organization, literally meaning “cooking women”, prepared, together with the Chief Chef of the Hilton, ethnic foods in the best tradition. The organization consists of 24 women from the four corners of Israel, each one a long standing immigrant, who is an expert in her field. Six of them represent six different communities. Guests enjoyed various traditional dishes from the Persian, Bukharian, Iraqi, East European, Turkish and Moroccan cuisines. Janna Gur, editor in chief of the gastronomic Magazine “Al Hashulchan” spoke of the sources of Jewish kitchen and its characteristics. The dinner was accompanied by the “Street Philharmonic”, new immigrants, street musicians who joined together to form this unique orchestra that performs music from around the world.

“2013 was fruitful and filled with many events. The highlight was the exhibition `Here Comes the Bride – Bridal Gowns Embroidering the Jewish Story` (on display till April 2013), says Irit Admoni Perlman, director of Israel Friends of Beit Hatfutsot and added ”Tonight, together with Gideon Hamburger, Chair of Friends of Beit Hatfutsot, we continue the tradition that your donations will enable us to continue our efforts and in hosting IDF soldiers and officers as well as children at risk, to guided tours, special programs and educational workshops at Beit Hatfutsot – The Museum of the Jewish People”.
