Young Teens from Around the World Participate in the Manuel Hirsch Grosskopf "My Family Story" Competition
Beit Hatfutsot is honored to host the Manuel Hirsch Grosskopf "My Family Story" Competition and awards ceremony with the participation of our generous donors Kuky and Sergio Grosskopf., My Family Story is an annual, international educational competition with participating schools from around Israel and the world. For the past 15 years the competition has brought together Bar/Bat Mitzvah age students in an investigation of their family stories, exposing kids to the ongoing and historical story of the Jewish people while giving them the opportunity to explore their own family story as part of this larger story.
This year 63 schools are participating in the competition, including schools from: the United States, Australia, France, Chile, Costa Rica, Columbia, Ukraine, Russia, Argentina, and Mexico, along with Israeli schools from Kiryat Shmoneh to Eilat.
A variety of prizes awaits this year’s winners and finalists and their participating schools. Beit Hatfutsot will also be exhibiting the final presentations of the winners in a month long exhibition which will be open to the general community. On June 15th and 16th competition participants from Israel and the world will join together for an experiential and engaging tour of Tel Aviv and Beit Hatfutsot which will offer participants a unique opportunity for discussions about identity and peoplehood.
Also at this year’s ceremony, the International School for Jewish Peoplehood Studies will be presenting exciting changes to the "My Family Story" - the Manuel Hirsch Grosskopf International Annual Competition for 2011-2012. These will include a newly developed curriculum which will be translated into six languages, and an interactive website which includes a platform for contact between teachers and students from around the world, and more.
The closing ceremony will take place on June 16, 2011. The reception will begin at 2:30 p.m. and at 4 p.m. the celebrations will begin with the announcement of the finalists and winners of the competition along with an artistic performance from the Moran Children’s’ Choir.
We look forward to seeing you!
