More than 20,000 students from 230 schools in Argentina, Israel, Mexico. South-Africa, Spain, Venezuela, Chile, Ukraine, the United States and Hong-Kong, participated in the 12th annual "My Family's Story" International Competition. More than 350 projects reached the final stage of the competition and of these 30 were chosen for the final judging. A personal Certificate of Excellence from Beth Hatefutsoth was granted to every student whose work made it to the final stage of the competition.

The Panel of Judges consisted of representatives of the Israel Ministry of Education, the Douglas E. Goldman Jewish Genealogy Center at Beth Hatefutsoth, the Bernhard H. and Miriam Oster Visual Documentation Center of Beth Hatefutsoth, the Education Center of Beth Hatefutsoth, and other public representatives.

The prize-giving ceremony took place on June 18th 2008 at Beth Hatefutsoth. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Moshe Zaafrani, senior inspector at the Ministry of Education, Ms. Hasia Israeli, Director of Beth Hatefutsoth, representatives from the Israeli Education Ministry, educators, students, members of the families, and guests.
The evening included a performance of the ensemble of the Tel Aviv Arison Campus of Arts.
