North American JCC Maccabi comes to Beit Hatfutsot
Beit Hatfutsot hosted 1200 participants in the Maccabi athletic games of the JCC North America in August, the first time this event was ever held in Israel. During their two week-stay, Maccabi participants not only played sports but also explored Jewish identity and Israel, including a special series of educational activities at Beit Hatfutsot focusing on Peoplehood.
The JCC Maccabi program at Beit Hatfutsot included a screening of MY ISRAEL, followed by engaging group discussions on the meaning of Israel in the lives of the participants, a scavenger hunt in the Light and Shadows: The Story of Iran and the Jewish Exhibition, a visit to the Permanent Exhibition including encounters with Museum actors, including Donna Gracia, 15th century power business woman, and a Jewish leadership activity on identity and Peoplehood.
“Beit Hatfutsot was proud to host the JCC Maccabi on the final day of their visit to Israel because it allowed us to use our Permanent Exhibition as a platform for participants to engage directly with the meaning of Jewish Peoplehood and the Land of Israel,” said Catriella Freedman, Coordinator of Program Development at the ISJPS noted that “It was clear that they left with a greater sense of identity and motivation.”
