NEW ACQUISITION – 18TH CENTURY TORAH
Old but new –
New acquisition of an 18th century Torah from Italy
Beit Hatfutsot – The Museum of the Jewish People, is proud to announce the acquisition of a unique Italian Torah set from the 18th century. The set, which includes a Torah Scroll, Torah Mantle, Silver Finials, Crown and half Crown, was in the possession of the Sacerdoti family for at least six generations. It later was transferred to the Great Synagogue of Modena where it was in use until the mid-1960’s, and then it was brought to the State of Israel.
This acquisition was made possible thanks to the generous contribution of the Saft family from Fairfield, Connecticut, USA, in memory of Marcia B. Saft Z”L.
The items will be displayed in the New Museum, slated to open in 2019.
