Perry Farag – Discovering the Story Behind the Story
You are Part of the Story is the central concept and one of the principle tenets of Beit Hatfutsot.
This was also the raison d’etre behind the fundraising event recently held by The Israel Friends of the Museum (IFBH).
Over 200 friends, including leading Israeli businessmen, attended a special screening of the documentary film “Photo Farag” that tells the story of the renowned Israeli family Farag. Perry Farag, the guest of honor, is the legendary founder of the iconic Israeli photography agency.
The program included a reception, a visit to the photo exhibition “Capturing History, the Photography of Chim” and a Q&A session with director Kobi Farag. Kobi is a next generation member of the family, who together with his cousin, filmmaker Roy, explored the family’s history. By researching private archives and holding periodic interviews, they revealed their family story of ten brothers and sisters who emigrated from Baghdad, Iraq in the 1950’s, and climbed the ladder of success establishing a leading photography business. An important exploration of Israeli social history and packed with fascinating interviews and archival materials, Photo Farag explores the often destructive forces of a family determined to leave its mark on society.
Hanna Pri-Zan, Chair of The Israel Friends of Beit Hatfutsot said, “Photo Farag accurately corresponds with the central focuses of the Museum of the Jewish People at Beit Hatfutsot. It is events like this which help sponsor and bring children to the Museum to discover their own story”.
Proceeds from event will go towards bringing children and youth from Israel’s geographical and social periphery for a meaningful comprehensive visit at Beit Hatfutsot. This became redundant after you added the comment to Hanna Pri-zan’s quote.
