A poster based on painting by Eliahou Eric Bokobza, from the exhibition ״United Colors of Judaica – Multiple Jewish Identities: A New Perspective״, displayed in Beit Hatfutsot
This exhibition is an inspiring discussion of Jewish identity, from the ethnic, religious and cultural aspects. The painting is based on the artist's own bar mitzvah celebration. The Jewish characteristics of the bar mitzvah celebration in the painting are few. The sugar doll on the cake, cast in the image of a miniature "Eliahou," is dressed in blue and white, carries a Torah scroll, and wears a kippah. The atmosphere is reminiscent of 1970s-style nightclubs. The belly dancer, who adds an oriental dimension to the painting, hints at the sexual maturation of adolescence. This allusion is underscored by the fancy bar mitzvah cake, which resembles a wedding cake.
